Sara Doll: Achieving Her Dreams

My time spent here at SEMO has been one that I would not trade for the world.   It feels like yesterday that I received my acceptance letter and decided to move from the middle of nowhere Kansas to a place of similar characteristics but in Missouri.   These two years have been packed with great memories and wonderful experiences.   The classroom provided me with the knowledge I need to succeed in the field, but the program also goes above and beyond providing ample amounts of opportunities to take the classroom knowledge and use it in the real world.   The program also encouraged me to go outside of Missouri and learn about parts of historic preservation in Georgia.   I would have never thought that would happen prior to becoming a part of the program at SEMO.             From my experience, I have found a new interest in city planning.   Come to find out, there is a career titled Historic Preservation City Planner, that I became aware of while in Georgia.   Since then I have

Rick Allen: Onward and Upward!

From my very first course (methods with Dr. Curtis) to my thesis (with Dr. Criblez), I will say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at SEMO.  The History dept. faculty and students have made it a wonderful experience!        Coming in 2013 as a part-time non-traditional student who was working full-time, I was welcomed and felt a part of the program right away. Each course I took only strengthened my resolve to continue to the point where I decided to retire early and pursue a career in history. This is such an exciting time for me! I walk in the Spring Commencement, but will be awarded my degree in August. I need to complete my internship for my final degree requirements. I really wanted a specific type of internship (also one that could potentially turn into a job), so my first summer at SEMO I only targeted blended internships. While those didn’t work out for my first summer, this year I had enhanced my skills through my classes and AP’s, so I was accepted for almost all the ones I applied for! I selected the one that offered the most potential. It is actually a local internship, so that is pretty exciting! I also have a job lined up for after graduation. I will be working on research and outreach for a non-profit, heritage foundation based out of St. Louis, Missouri. I’m very excited to start working in the field. I’m not the least bit anxious about the responsibilities. SEMO has provided so many opportunities for experiential learning, that I know I am fully p
